Lisianthus – Flower with a Beautiful Mouth
Lisianthus, also known as Eustoma and Prairie Gentian and popular as Lizzy,
is native to warm regions and typically found in the grasslands of southern North America, northern
South America, Caribbean and Mexico.
Deriving its name from the Greek words Eu and Stoma, meaning good and mouth
respectively, the flower truly
characterizes its name.
It is a beautiful, funnel
shaped flower with bluish
green succulent leaves.
These flowers bloom
early summer and continue throughout the summers. They
also have a very good vase life. With proper care,
they can last 3 weeks
or even more in the vase. They
are available in all
shades of are
blue, white, pink
and purple. One can also
find them in yellow,
carmen-red, cream, green, lavender and bi-colored shades
also, though, not that easily.
Lisianthus make gorgeous wedding
flowers and with right combination, they completely rock the
events. One can make elegant light
colored to bold and bright
arrangements using these
exquisite blossoms.
Here are a
few ways to use Lisianthus in your arrangements.
Use them with
large headed white
roses, oriental lilies
and hand-tie with
eucalyptus and steel
grass for an amazing white centerpiece.
White Lisianthus make an exquisite cream
and white combination along with peach
germinis, white roses, white lilies
and white spray chrysanthemums. Adding eucalyptus, salal
and steel grass.
Using the combination with
a matching light
colored (peach or cream) container will make any table
look elegant.
Want to give your
table an ultra-colorful countryside look? Use pink Lisianthus with red roses
and cerise alstroemeria along
with bupleurum and salal. Tie the combination with a satin
or silk ribbon that matches the colors to give it an uber-cool look.
